Join us this June as we take part in Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month and June 21st is Indigenous People’s Day. We are going to be engaging our fans this June to take part in Indigenous History Month.

There are many rich and diverse Indigenous people on these lands, and we want to take the time to learn more about how Indigenous people have shaped and influenced the past and the present in Canada.

How we are celebrating

Every day this month, we will be using our Instagram stories and our twitter handle to share information, moments in history, and ways to get involved in demanding justice and equity for Indigenous peoples. While we know every day is an opportunity to educate ourselves about colonization and justice, we think that Indigenous History Month is still an important reminder to never stop the conversation.

How YOU can learn more about Indigenous History and culture year-round

  •  Diversify your feed: Follow First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists, authors, activists, and creative voices on your social media channels.
  • Consume Indigenous Content: When consuming stories about Indigenous culture and history, seek out content by people who have connection to these stories. Indigenous people all over the world are telling their own stories through writing, books, TV, film, podcasts, music, and more.

Take your learning to the next level, by taking action.

  • Take Action: Check out Indigenous people and Indigenous-led groups standing for justice and fighting racism. They will likely have specific ways you can support and take action that are useful for them. It could be following them on social media, signing a petition, volunteering, or showing up to their actions and events.
  • Donate! Seek out Indigenous-led organizations dedicated to protecting land, water, missing and murdered Indigenous women, kids in foster care, and much more. Learn more about these groups and donate!

If you are not sure where to start, take action with us and support Grassy Narrows First Nation. They have been protecting their land from mining and logging and are calling on the Ontario government to stop all Industrial activity on their territory that does not have their consent. They will also be taking action in Toronto in July and we have three ways you can join them and take action no matter where you are.
